Studio Montessori is a small, privately owned French/English bilingual preschool in San Francisco. It has two Montessori environments: Le Nido, consisting of 12 children ages 3 months to 2.5 years old, and La Maternelle, which has a maximum capacity of 30 children ages 2.3 years and above. The school community is very diverse with families of varied American and international backgrounds. Studio Montessori adheres to the Montessori curriculum and standards of the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) based in the Netherlands. Both environments are well stocked with authentic Montessori materials and are led by experienced Montessori guides trained for the levels they teach.

Assistant Montessori infant/toddler Teacher

Classification: Non-exempt; Full Time

Position Summary

The Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in implementing a Montessori program that fosters the spiritual, social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of each child. The Assistant helps create and maintain a nurturing, orderly, and joyful classroom environment in accordance with Studio Montessori’s philosophy, standards, and policies.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Support the Lead Teacher in preparing, presenting, and maintaining Montessori materials and activities.

  • Observe and record each child’s progress and assist in developing individualized plans for growth and development.

  • Maintain full awareness and accountability for all children at all times.

  • Ensure a clean, safe, and hygienic classroom environment.

  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, emotional intelligence, patience, empathy, adaptability, organization, and collaboration.

  • Uphold Studio Montessori policies, performance standards, and licensing regulations in daily operations.

  • Participate actively in team meetings, center activities, and professional development.

  • Assist in conducting parent-teacher conferences and maintaining positive relationships with families.

  • Promote self-esteem, independence, and respectful interactions among children.

  • Model professionalism, reliability, and a commitment to continuous learning.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher or administration.

  • Uphold CDSS regulations and requirements.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Stand or walk for up to 95% of the workday.

  • Bend, stoop, and sit on the floor to engage with children at their level.

  • Move quickly between seated and standing positions to respond to children’s needs.

  • Participate in classroom activities (jump, dance, run, etc.) for extended periods.

  • Maintain adequate vision and hearing to ensure children’s safety and supervision.

  • Work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment requiring flexibility and responsiveness.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements to be considered for this position:

  • Proof of a physical examination within the last six (6) months, including a tuberculosis test.

  • Documentation of state-mandated immunizations.

  • Clear criminal background check (Live Scan).

  • Verification of completion of at least 12 Early Childhood Education (ECE) units, or 6 completed units and proof of current enrollment in coursework leading to completion.

  • Completion of all required CDSS (California Department of Social Services) paperwork prior to employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a Montessori environment (0–3 years).

  • Bilingual (English/French).

  • Current Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification.

Senior Montessori Toddler/Preschool Teacher

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Responsible for developing and implementing a program of activities that promotes the spiritual, social, emotional, physical, and academic development of toddler/preschool-age children.

  • Provide guidance to junior and lead teachers to ensure proper implementation of the AMI curriculum at school.

  • Maintain full accountability of all children at all times. Maintain a clean and hygienic environment at all times.

  • Responsible for the full implementation of Studio Montessori performance standards, policies and procedures, regulations and guidelines in the day-to-day operation of an early childhood development toddler/preschool (0 years-5 years of age).

  • Participate in team meetings, center activities, and staff development during work hours.

  • Regularly review the progress of each child and developing written plans to promote each child’s growth and development.

  • Maintain a well organized, safe and attractive classroom environment conducive to the optimal growth and development of children.

  • Develop a positive relationship with each child and promote the development of self- esteem and self-discipline.

  • Plan and implement daily program of activities based on principles of child development and in accordance with the program’s curriculum.

  • Observe each child daily to assess skills, interests, and needs and use this information to facilitate learning and growth.

  • Establish a positive relationship with each child’s family and share information about the child’s day at the preschool.

  • Conduct staff/parent conferences concerning the developmental needs of the children.

  • Coordinate with therapists and execute IEP’s of children having special needs or otherwise in need of extra support.

  • Maintain records on each child’s progress and development. Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Requirements for Position:

  • Montessori Primary Diploma or Infant Diploma from the Association Montessori Internationale, American Montessori Society, or equivalent

  • Minimum 3 years of experience teaching in a Montessori environment post receipt of Montessori diploma
